Granny J's donuts

Sunday was that day when it was known: there will be donuts on the table after lunch! Believe me, the luck was huge... Still, my generation knew how to rejoice in small things, rainbows in the sky after the rain, the smell of mowed grass, cartoons at 19:15, and homemade donuts on Sundays.

As my grandmother said: "When the house smells, the neighbors come uninvited...."

There is nothing better than when the whole house smells of delicious and soft homemade doughnuts! If you love the smell and taste of real homemade doughnuts, we are sure that you will immediately write this recipe down in your cookbook. The most beautiful are those with sugar, but you can also fill them with cream, chocolate, or jam to your taste. These soft and hollow homemade donuts are a testament to simpler times and the joys of small pleasures. Each bite takes me back to those Sundays, filled with the warmth and love of family gatherings. The anticipation of the donuts being served after lunch was a delight in itself. The neighbors could always tell when donuts were being made—their enticing aroma would waft through the neighborhood, inviting everyone over for a taste.

Ingredients:

- 2 teaspoons of dry yeast

- 2 spoons of warm water

- A little sugar

- 650 g of wheat flour

- 1 cup of warm milk

- 55 g unsalted butter

- 1 spoon of sugar

- 3 egg yolks

- Salt

Instructions:

1. Dissolve the sugar and dry yeast in the warm water and let it rise for up to 10 minutes or until the mixture becomes foamy.

2. In a large bowl, mix the flour, a cup of warm milk, room temperature butter, egg yolks, sugar, and salt. Once combined, add the yeast mixture.

3. Beat the mixture with a mixer on low speed until well combined. Increase the speed gradually, then shape the dough with your hands. The dough should be slightly sticky to the touch but not stretchy or rubbery.

4. Grease another bowl with butter and transfer the dough into it. Spread butter over the dough as well. Cover with a cloth and leave in a warm place for one to two hours until it doubles in size.

5. Roll out the dough with a rolling pin and use a mold to cut circles. Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Cover them again with a cloth and let them rise for another 45 to 60 minutes.

6. Heat oil in a deep pot. Drop the donuts into the hot oil, as many as will fit in the pot at one time. Fry until one side is golden, then turn to the other side. Drain on a towel.

7. Fill the donuts with your desired fillings such as cream, chocolate, or jam.

If you try this recipe, be prepared for the same effect. The smell will draw everyone to your kitchen, just as it did in my grandmother's time. These donuts are perfect for sharing and creating new memories with your loved ones. Enjoy!
